| The hospital is an organization where people come as patients to treat their ailments. They are accompanied by either their friends or family members to take care of their non medical needs and to assist them while obtaining the medical care. These people are thus involved in the generation of hospital waste.
The other category of people involved in the collection of hospital wastes is the rag pickers who are interested in the polythene bags and plastic material as disposed syringes. Hence, all these three categories are at high risk of exposure of transmission of diseases either from the hospital or hospital generated waste. This is the responsibility of the health care organizations to safeguard their health and protect them from diseases.

The hospital staff is directly exposed to the nosocomial Infections and the risks of hospital wastes and poor waste management. They are responsible for the generation, segregation, collection, treatment and disposal of hospital and biomedical wastes. They have to work with sharps like needles, syringes and blades. |
Another issue of prime importance related to the hospital waste is environment protection. The internal environment of the hospital is in direct contact with the external environment. The hospital is responsible for the generation of the waste contaminated with bacteria, virus, parasites and other infectious agents. The foul gases are discharged from Mortuary, Labor room, Anatomy department, Surgical department and Pathology department. This all leads to environment pollution.
